As summer weather allows for more outdoor time, you-our policy holders are undoubtedly making preparations for the upcoming season. The possibilities for fun are endless, from backyard barbeques and camping to Fourth of July gatherings with friends and family. However, if fire safety precautions aren't taken ahead of time, these summer pastimes can quickly turn dangerous, resulting in injury and possibly affecting your ability to work. So help keep you and your loved ones safe and follow these tips for a great, safe summer:
- Barbeque Safety-
- Clean your grill regularly.
- Keep the grill at least 10 feet away from your property while in use.
- Keep decorations away from the grill.
- Don’t leave the grill unattended.
- Do not overload the grill with food.
- Campfire Safety-
- Safety-proof your firepit: build fires where they will not spread and away from dry grass and leaves.
- Keep flammable items far away from the fire.
- Never leave campfires unattended.
- Keep plenty of water around to douse the fire out if you are done or if it gets out of hand.
- Firework Safety-
- Do not wear loose clothing while handling fireworks.
- Stand several feet away from lit fireworks. If it does not go off, do not stand over it to investigate it.
- Always read the warning labels and directions.
- Always have a bucket of water or fire extinguisher nearby.
