8 Practical Ways To Build A Stronger Mindset

Different people are being affected by the current issue. As many of us engage in social withdrawal and cope with the uncertainties we confront, we work to manage our mental health. Many small businesses were forced to close their doors permanently, and those that are still battling to stay open daily face fresh obstacles. More than ever, it is essential that we have open conversations about mental health and how having a positive outlook is the key to navigating these turbulent times and emerging stronger.

When you ask almost every successful business entrepreneur what they attribute their success to, they almost never cite their intelligence, charm, or the scope of their vision. Instead, it is about how organized they are in their daily routines, how they have developed their tenacity and fortitude to overcome obstacles, and how quickly they can get back on track when they inevitably fall off course.

Before we get into practical tips and best practices to building a stronger mindset, let’s talk about getting unstuck for those of you who feel like things are just not quite right at the moment. Below are eight actions you can take and introduce in your routine right away to help you build, maintain and keep a strong mindset.

  1. Do a Calendar Audit - You need to be able to say "yes" to the right things and "no" to the wrong ones if you want to protect one of your most valuable assets as a small business owner. Examine your schedule and (honestly!) consider how you are spending your time. Restructure it for flow, removing at least 20% of the non-priority items.
  2. Add Movement to Life - Choose a movement style that suits you, make a calendar update, create accountability, and then get moving. Even though it may seem like old news, it is impossible to maintain a positive outlook without fitting in some kind of physical activity to keep your body in shape.
  3. Post It - According to psychology, your chances of achieving your goals increase the more you visualize, reflect, and give them your whole attention. By making your goals visible so that you can see them as you go about your everyday activities, it is a fun and simple method to improve your mentality.
  4. Do a Power Hour - This is an easy one! Set out an hour in your schedule to watch information that will inspire you to be your best self. Watching motivational video can frequently help us get back on track when we're feeling stressed out, exhausted, or like we need to recharge.
  5. Start 10/10/10 - Start each day with 10 minutes of reading, 10 minutes of thinking, and 10 minutes of writing as Warren Rustand suggests. It can improve your life for about $12 per month in time commitment. Your reward is so great compared to the tiny investment.
  6. Retreat & Treat - We frequently believe that if we work longer hours, we would accomplish more. But more often than not, we achieve more if we take a step back and get strategic. Plan a day for yourself where you switch off all technology, go somewhere serene, and spend the day reading, reflecting, and making plans.
  7. Start Meditating - While difficulties, fears, and current events still exist, meditation can help us better control our thoughts and our responses to them. Having a positive perspective can change the way we approach each day and keep us focused on what we can and cannot manage. Start a brief meditation routine that will help you begin your day with calmness. This practice will just take a few minutes each morning.
  8. Do Monthly "I Do" Days - So many of us suffer from the “Yes” syndrome. We want to help others as much as we can and, oftentimes, end up spreading ourselves thin by promising to do things we don’t have the time for and then feeling guilty for under-delivering. Schedule a monthly “I Will” Day into your calendar where you re-prioritize, delegate, or apologize, and then get back into action.
